Top North Korean construction projects all missed 2021 deadlines amid shortages

Kim Jong Un and other top officials admitted at party plenum events that annual construction goals had not been met

All three of North Korea’s top-billed housing construction projects for 2021 appear to have missed their end-of-year targets for completion set by leader Kim Jong Un, likely due to a shortage of materials.

Delays in opening a 10,000-home street of skyscrapers and a new neighborhood of upscale apartments for elites in Pyongyang, as well as 5,000 new homes in the remote mining town of Komdok, follow indefinite delays in recent years to a modern hospital in Pyongyang and mega beach resort on the east coast.
