Price spike: Shampoo now selling for $200 in Pyongyang, bananas for $45

Imported items selling for up to 10 times higher than normal, raising fears of disrupted supply chains

The cost of some imported goods has once again dramatically increased in Pyongyang, an informed source told NK News on Tuesday, with some shampoo selling for U.S. $200 per bottle and a kilogram of bananas for $45.

The price rises follow the appearance of new stocks of foreign foods and drinks in Pyongyang shops in April, which some thought indicated an end to a monthslong period of border restriction-related supermarket shortages in North Korea.
