North Korea reports heavy rain, warns of ‘inevitable’ typhoons

Areas hit by typhoon last year received 4-5 inches of rain since Thursday, state media says

North Korean state television aired a rare special weather report on Friday warning of heavy rains and severe winds, saying some areas of the country had already received nearly five inches (127 mm) of rain since the day before.

The severe weather warning comes after a series of typhoons caused significant damage across North Korea in Aug. and Sept. 2020. Years of preparation campaigns had apparently failed to result in adequate protection from high winds and heavy rain.
