North Korea claimed to have zero confirmed COVID-19 cases after testing a cumulative total of 25,986 people, according to a new report from the World Health Organization (WHO).
The DPRK self-reports COVID-19 related statistics to WHO and said that everyone tested — including those with influenza-like illnesses or acute respiratory infections — came up negative for the novel coronavirus as of April 29. North Korea tested 751 people during the week of April 23 and April 29, with 51,698 samples total tested as of April 29.
Last week, NK News reported that 1.7 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine originally slated to reach North Korea by May are now facing delays partly because of complications in India, which has been facing a surge of thousands of recorded coronavirus-related deaths per day. The vaccines were supposed to come from an Indian pharmaceutical manufacturer, but Indian vaccine exports have been put on a temporary hold because of domestic demand.
North Korea is now expected to receive the vaccines sometime between July and December of this year, a spokesperson from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance told NK News last Wednesday.
