North Korea hails anniversary of Kim Jong Un’s Hanoi trip, omits mention of U.S.

Vice foreign minister Ri Kil Song praises DPRK leader's "historic maiden visit" to Vietnam last February

North Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on Tuesday issued a press statement praising the significance of leader Kim Jong Un's February 2019 visit to Vietnam, while notably opting not to mention his subsequent ill-fated summit with U.S. President Donald Trump.

The press statement (tamhwa), delivered by vice foreign minister Ri Kil Song is the first statement of its kind by the MFA since January 11, when senior diplomat Kim Kye Gwan issued a response to President Trump's "birthday greetings" message to Kim Jong Un.
