Seoul may finance aid groups working with ‘vulnerable’ North Koreans

Unification ministry says it’s reviewing "diverse measures" for provision after government OKs aid to DPRK

The South Korean government is reviewing ways to promote private humanitarian aid work on North Korea, Seoul’s unification ministry said Thursday, some 10 days after the two sides renewed contact via key inter-Korean hotlines.

The statement came after South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency, citing anonymous sources, reported the previous day that the Ministry of Unification (MOU) is considering whether to provide some $8.7 million (10 billion won) to private organizations that work to support North Korea’s vulnerable populations.
