North Korea to hold a Party Congress every five years

On day five of the latest Party Congress, North Korea revamped party rules and boasted about increased cash reserves

North Korea’s ruling party boasted about increased cash reserves and the strength of its socialist system on the fifth day of its Eighth Party Congress, with top officials ultimately deciding to hold the massive and historically rare political event every five years from now on.

State media reported on Sunday that the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) also discussed changes to financial management and how major decisions are made on Jan. 9. The current Party Congress, which started last week on Tuesday, is only the third one to take place in the last 41 years.
