What North Korea is telling citizens about how to survive its COVID-19 outbreak

State media has advised everything from painkillers and honey to positive thinking, while comparing virus to common cold

North Korean state media outlets have released a slew of programs and articles in an effort to educate citizens about how to treat COVID-19 and get through at-home quarantine amid the country’s first confirmed nationwide outbreak this month. 

Some programs offer detailed instructions about basic painkiller medicines and traditional remedies, including dosages to avoid complications that have reportedly led to deaths in dozens of cases.
