Aid for pregnant women in North Korea cleared for distribution, UNICEF says

Shipment released from disinfection amid concerns about DPRK’s worsening humanitarian situation during pandemic

North Korean authorities have finished disinfecting a batch of nutrition supplies for pregnant women, UNICEF has reported, after the U.N. agency said last month that two shipments of humanitarian aid had cleared quarantine.

The nutrition supplies and micronutrient treatments will support 160,000 pregnant and lactating women, according to a UNICEF report published this week. The release of the aid comes amid concerns that North Koreans are struggling under the country’s self-imposed pandemic restrictions.
