North Korea test-fired two short-range ballistic missiles towards the East Sea on Thursday morning, according to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff. The launch marks North Korea’s first-known ballistic missile test since U.S. President Joe Biden took office.

Both missiles were fired from North Korea’s Hamju area in South Hamgyong province at 7:06 a.m. and 7:25 a.m. KST, the JCS said. The missiles then flew approximately 450 kilometers (280 miles) at an altitude of 60 kilometers (37 miles). 

The JCS added that the missiles were possibly launched from land.
