Seoul to review support for North Korean defectors after woman’s lonely death

Discovery of remains months after she died a reminder many defectors experience severe isolation in South, experts say

South Korea’s unification ministry announced Tuesday that it will review its crisis management system for North Korean defectors, after the recent discovery of a female defector’s skeleton raised questions anew about government support for resettlers.

Experts told NK News that the case serves as a reminder that many defectors suffer from loneliness and isolation in South Korean society, given that her remains appear to have gone undiscovered for months.
