A Tale of Two Cities: How Pyongchang’s Olympics affects Pyongyang

Hearty congratulations are due to the city of Pyeongchang, South Korea, after being named the host of the 2018 Winter Olympics. The city’s successful bid had a number of elements in its favor: a large number of world-class venues already in operation, strong public support, a fantastic presentation to the IOC featuring heavyweights such as President Lee Myung-bak and figure skating gold medalist Kim Yu-na, and most of all, the attractive message of opening new markets to winter sports.
