North Korea's last four military parades, like this one in Kim Il Sung Square, were held at night | Image: KCTV (Oct. 10, 2020)
Illuminated jets and propeller planes flew low over Pyongyang around 1 a.m. Wednesday, videos taken in the capital and seen by NK News show, suggesting that North Korea has begun an anticipated military parade to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the foundation of the Korean People’s Army (KPA).
The aircraft were lit up with what looked like LED lights and at one point flew in a formation that appeared to spell out the number “75,” likely signifying the anniversary. Aircraft flyovers have been a regular feature of DPRK military parades since the first nighttime event in Oct. 2020, though the video of Wednesday’s event did not show flares coming from planes like at some past parades.
