North Korean firm planned $3.5M sale of military equipment to Nigeria: UN report

Deal would be major sanctions breach, but expert says it’s ‘far from clear’ whether negotiations ever occurred

A North Korean company linked to the Korean People’s Army was planning to sell millions of dollars in military equipment to Nigeria last year, a forthcoming U.N. report states, a transaction that would have likely violated multiple international sanctions.

Haegeumgang Trading Corporation — a “weapons trading entity” according to the Panel of Experts report — planned to broker a $3.5 million arms deal sale between North Korea and Nigeria, an unnamed member state told the Panel.
