Deputy national security advisor says illicit use of cryptocurrency helps fund North Korean weapons programs

A top White House official called on the U.S. to strengthen efforts to fight cryptocurrency laundering schemes in the wake of a half-billion-dollar cyber heist, highlighting Washington’s increased focus on combating novel cybercrimes that experts warn help fund North Korea’s weapons programs.

Anne Neuberger, Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Advisor for Cyber and Emerging Technology, made the remarks during a virtual press conference during her recent visit to New York.
