Kim Jong Un admits food security issues as party plenum event kicks off

Kim Jong Un concedes food situation outlook is 'tense', but says economic output has grown overall since last year

A party plenum event guided by Kim Jong Un kicked off on Tuesday, state media reported, with the North Korean leader conceding that the nation's food situation is getting "tense" due to failures in the agricultural sector and poor weather.

The event, which was originally announced on June 4 and follows a gathering of top military officials last week, also saw Kim claim that national industrial output had grown 25% from the same period last year.
