US raises pressure on countries illegally hosting North Korean workers

Treasury Department newly sanctions North Korean and Russian firms for exporting “forced labor” from the DPRK

The U.S. Department of the Treasury sanctioned North Korean and Russian firms on Thursday for allegedly exporting “forced labor” from the DPRK.

In a press release published on Nov. 19, the Treasury Department said that firms operating in Russia were also newly designated for allegedly helping “generate revenue” for the North Korean government, which is in violation of existing U.S. and U.N. sanctions.
