South Korean students have slightly warmed to inter-Korean unification and believe relations with North Korea have become more peaceful compared to last year, though a majority still characterized cross-border ties as “not peaceful,” according to a new government poll.

The School Unification Education Survey commissioned by the ministries of unification and education polled over 70,000 students and 4,600 teachers across 816 elementary, middle and high schools from October to November.

Over 60% of student respondents said they believe inter-Korean relations are “not peaceful,” a drop of 15.5 percentage points from the previous year, according to the survey published on Tuesday.
