North Korea conducts artillery drills, says Seoul ‘within range’

Kim Jong Un leads second day of military drills as US-ROK joint exercises also ongoing this week

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un led artillery drills on Thursday to demonstrate the military’s ability to strike the South Korean capital Seoul, according to state media, on the second day of DPRK military exercises this week.

The North’s drills coincide with annual large-scale joint U.S.-ROK exercises called Freedom Shield, which started on Monday and are set to last through next Friday.

“The drills commenced with power demonstration strikes of long-range artillery divisions in the border area, which are carrying out the crucial task as a war deterrent with the enemy’s capital in range,” the Rodong Sinmun reported Friday.
