South Korean president tells ministry to ‘stop throwing money’ at North Korea

Unification ministry says it has not been involved with government-level payments to DPRK under current administration

South Korea should stop “throwing money” at the North while it clings to its nuclear weapons program, President Yoon Suk-yeol said Tuesday, taking aim at the unification ministry that has helped coordinate inter-Korean projects in the past.

Yoon delivered the remarks at a cabinet meeting where attendees discussed a range of foreign and defense policy issues, including the outline of next year’s national budget and this week’s Summit for Democracy with the U.S. and other nations, a presidential spokesperson said.
