A child was found dead in the Han River near the inter-Korean border on Tuesday, South Korean police have confirmed to NK News.

While local media have speculated the body could have floated from nearby North Korea, the West Ilsan Police Station said investigators have yet to identify the remains, which had already begun to decay.

The boy is presumed to be under 10 years old considering height and other characteristics, police told NK News.

“But we have to wait for the result of the assessment to see more accurately,” a police official involved with the case said
