The heightened frequency of North Korean missile tests this year poses a greater risk to aircraft and ships operating in Northeast Asia, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has warned.

Citing North Korea’s unannounced launch of eight ballistic missiles on June 5, the FAA said the absence of warnings contributes to increased risk for pilots in the region.

“The DPRK’s failure to provide advance warning of missile test launches presents an enduring safety hazard to civil aviation and maritime operations in the region,” according to the FAA statement issued on June 8. “Continued unannounced DPRK missile tests over the near-term
