North Korea’s main foreign-language news website has removed Gregorian calendar years from its news articles in favor of exclusively using Juche years, which began in 1912, the year founding leader Kim Il Sung was born.

The switch appeared in a redesign of the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) website (kcna.kp) unveiled on Monday, which also brought technical changes to media viewing and search functionality.

The previous version of the KCNA site displayed the current date at the top of the page with the “Juche” year coming first, followed by the Gregorian year in parenthesis and the month and date. Article
