Behind ‘The Mole’: Director talks secret mics, finances & dangerous close calls

Director Mads Brügger spills details on what it’s like to secretly record North Korea for a decade

Earlier this month, director Mads Brügger made waves with his latest documentary series, “The Mole,” which uses ten years of secretly-recorded footage to implicate North Korea in back-end weapons and drug deals.

Leveraging hidden cameras, the film features two undercover Danish actors — Ulrich Larsen and Jim Latrache-Qvortrup — who pose as a loyal member of the Danish Korean Friendship Association and as an arms dealer named “Mr. James.”
