North Korean authorities announced a forthcoming prisoner amnesty designed to coincide with a major forthcoming political anniversary, the country’s state-run Rodong Sinmun newspaper reported on Saturday.

The amnesty, which is the fourth to have taken place in North Korea since Kim Jong Un became leader, was approved on July 30 by the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly (SPA) and will result in an unspecified number of detainees being released in September.
