Air China flights to North Korea wrap up for winter pause

Temporary suspension could leave access to country in precarious position, given current tensions

State airline Air China wrapped up its twice-weekly service between Beijing and Pyongyang last Friday, for a regular winter suspension that could leave flight access to the North in a precarious position.

The airline typically only flies the route to Pyongyang between late March and late October each year, though this year saw an unusual and additional suspension between early April and early May, which was later explained as being due to “the situation of ticket sales.”

Air China’s scheduled winter pull-out of the route now leaves North Korean state airline Air Koryo as the only company running a flight service
