Old-style 5,000 won bills are still in wide circulation in North Korea, despite the recent introduction of a newly designed bill, a source in Pyongyang told NK News.

The source, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of relaying information from North Korea, said old-style 5,000 won bills featuring the portrait of founding President Kim Il Sung were being widely used in shops in Pyongyang this week.

Upon witnessing transactions in a local shop, the source said that not a single newly designed 5,000 won bill had been seen being exchanged.
