Iran has denied any connection to an oil shipment to North Korea that was seized by China in April, a statement published by Mehr news agency said on Sunday.

The statement rejects claims in Japanese daily the Asahi Shimbun that the Chinese government is holding up an Iranian oil shipment bound for North Korea at two of its northeasterly ports.

“The oil tanker seized in Port Daniel in China is not Iranian… The National Iranian Oil Company has not sent a shipment of crude oil to North Korea,” an unnamed Iranian oil official was quoted Sunday by Mehr news agency.
