North Korea likely buried ‘hundreds’ of mines south of border, ROK lawmaker says

In interview, Yu Yong-weon calls for removing mines at six sites near Sept. 21 explosion and stronger countermeasures

South Korean intelligence indicates that North Korea has likely buried hundreds of land mines near the area where explosions injured three ROK soldiers in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) last month, according to an opposition lawmaker.

In an interview at the National Assembly on Tuesday, People Power Party (PPP) lawmaker Yu Yong-weon told NK News that the military is aware of minefields at six sites south of the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) along the western front but has not made this public.
