North Korea’s parliament to convene on short notice to revise constitution

Urgent session of Supreme People’s Assembly set for Sunday comes on heels of weekend election of deputies

North Korea will hold an urgent Supreme People’s Assembly (SPA) session on Sunday to discuss constitutional revisions, according to an announcement in state media on Tuesday, marking an unusually short notice for the event.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported the First Session of the 15th SPA — North Korea’s rubber-stamp parliament — will convene on March 22 to discuss the “revision and supplement of the Socialist Constitution.”

It will be the third session from the last four to formally cover revisions, possibly related to leader Kim Jong Un’s Jan. 2024declaration calling for enshrining a stronger anti-South Korea
