News Kim Jong Un says ‘world cannot ignore’ North Korea’s improved hypersonic missileIntermediate-range missile test on Monday meant as warning to 'hostile forces,' as top US diplomat held talks in Seoul
North Korea test-launched an upgraded version of its solid-fuel hypersonic intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) on Monday, according to state media, a weapon featuring a maneuverable warhead designed to better defeat missile defense systems. Leader Kim Jong Un declared at the launch that “the performance of our latest hypersonic intermediate-range missile system is globally significant and cannot be ignored,” the Rodong Sinmun reported on Tuesday. The launch was meant as a show to “hostile forces,” a term that North Korea typically uses to refer to the U.S. and South Korea, though the report didn’t explicitly name the countries.
