North Korean crossed into South with help of ROK military, Seoul says

A North Korean has crossed the border into South Korea with the help of the ROK military, Seoul announced Thursday, with authorities currently investigating the individual’s intention to defect.

Local media have reported that the presumed defector crossed the maritime border in the Han River estuary on the west coast, citing military sources.

“Our military has secured custody of an unidentified person presumed to be a North Korean individual and has handed them over to the relevant authorities,” Seoul’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) announced in a statement.
