After trial balloon, Kim Yo Jong says North Korea not interested in Japan talks

Leader’s sister says DPRK will reject all contact with Tokyo, concluding summit offer was ‘politically motivated’

North Korea will “reject any and all” contacts with Tokyo going forward, the leader’s sister Kim Yo Jong said Tuesday, a month after floating the possibility of a bilateral summit and a day after claiming Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida had reached out to propose talks.

In a statement released Tuesday evening via state media, Kim said North Korea interprets Kishida’s recent diplomatic overtures for a meeting with Kim Jong Un as “politically motivated.”
