South Korea and Russia have gone back and forth in recent days after Moscow took issue with President Yoon Suk-yeol’s description of North Korea at a recent defense meeting. 

Seoul’s foreign ministry summoned Russian Ambassador Georgy Zinoviev as a “firm protest” against the Kremlin on Saturday after the Russian foreign ministry called Yoon’s remarks “biased,” “odious,” and designed to obscure aggressive plans toward the DPRK.

President Yoon called the DPRK an “irrational group” for expanding nuclear use scenarios to include preemptive strikes, a doctrine Yoon said made North Korea uniquely dangerous.
