Seoul blacklists North Korean spy chief, 7 others over hacking and arms trade

Designations mark South Korea’s 12th round of unilateral sanctions this year and come in response to latest ICBM launch

South Korea sanctioned North Korea’s chief spy and seven other officials for arms trade and illegal cyber activities on Wednesday, measures taken in response to the DPRK’s launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) last week.

The ROK foreign ministry said in a statement on Wednesday that the sanctioned individuals “engaged in illicit cyber activities and technology theft, as well as sanctioned trade, including weapons” to bankroll the North Korean regime and its nuclear and missile programs.
