Locals tell NK News physicians provide good care, but experts stress sanctions forbid DPRK nationals from working abroad

The Republic of the Congo ranks among the countries with the lowest density of doctors in the world, with roughly one physician for every 10,000 people. And to fill its need for medical expertise, the central African country has turned to professionals from an unlikely place — North Korea.

A small team of DPRK doctors is working at a neighborhood clinic in the Congo’s second-biggest city of Pointe Noire, an NK News investigation has found, providing what locals say is high-quality medical care at an accessible location.
