South Korea to compensate families of six detainees still held in North Korea

Seoul says it hopes payments of up to $15K will ‘provide comfort,’ as DPRK remains unresponsive to calls for release

The South Korean government will compensate the family members of those abducted by North Korea, the unification ministry announced Thursday, as six ROK citizens remain detained in the DPRK.

Compensation will range from 15 million to 20 million Korean won ($11,330 to $15,100) per family in the “hope that this will provide comfort and assistance,” according to a statement
