According to South Korea’s navy, the three countries trained to intercept North Korean weapons of mass destruction and improve capabilities to counter piracy at sea. While the three countries conducted joint naval exercises earlier this year, the trilateral drill marks the first joint maritime interdiction training exercise since 2016 and the first joint-anti-piracy drill since 2017. ROK, Japan, US’ advanced assets join naval exercise to intercept DPRK weapons

South Korea, Japan and the U.S. conducted trilateral naval exercises off the southeast coast of Jeju on Monday and Tuesday to strengthen their ability to respond to North Korean threats, according to Seoul’s defense ministry.

According to South Korea’s navy, the three countries trained to intercept North Korean weapons of mass destruction and improve capabilities to counter piracy at sea.
