State media says North Korean leader left Pyongyang via private train on Sunday after US warns against weapons deal

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is headed to Russia with top military officials for his first trip outside the country since 2019, state media reported on Tuesday, ahead of a possible summit with Russian leader Vladimir Putin to discuss weapons trade and joint military exercises.

Kim left Pyongyang on Sunday evening in a private train with his defense chief, foreign minister and officials in charge of weapons production and space technology, according to a Rodong Sinmun report and accompanying photos. It did not mention plans to meet Putin.
