WHO receives sanctions exemption to send disaster relief to North Korea

UN sanctions body approves proposal to ship tents for humanitarian aid efforts, as DPRK grapples with typhoon damage

The World Health Organization (WHO) has received a humanitarian exemption to send tents to North Korea as part of aid and relief efforts for natural disasters, as the DPRK tries to recover from recent floods and a typhoon.

The U.N. Security Council’s 1718 Sanctions Committee overseeing North Korean sanctions granted the waiver, allowing the WHO to ship five multipurpose tents worth over $5,000.
