North Korean media issues rare rebuke of those who waste ‘precious electricity’

Expert says allegations seek to distract from power production problems, while another notes energy theft is pervasive

North Korea’s main newspaper issued a stern rebuke of individuals and units who waste electricity on Tuesday, describing their activities as undermining “vigorous” national efforts to save energy.

The Rodong Sinmun report, which described positive steps taken by other work units to conserve energy supplies, was notable for delivering a rare dressing-down of those who have allegedly misused “precious electricity” in a “reckless” manner.
