IMO condemns North Korean missile launches as ‘serious threat’ to ship traffic

Seoul says UN maritime body issued first resolution on DPRK missiles, hours after failed satellite debris fell into sea

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) condemned North Korean missile launches as a “serious threat” to maritime traffic on Wednesday, hours after debris from a failed DPRK satellite launch fell into the Yellow Sea.

According to South Korea’s foreign ministry, the IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee adopted an “unprecedented” resolution calling for North Korea to comply with maritime regulations and cease missile launches during its 107th session. The text of the resolution was not immediately available on the IMO’s website.
