South Korea’s new drone command will “overwhelmingly respond” to future North Korean provocations, Seoul’s prime minister said Tuesday, as the cabinet approved plans to establish the command.

The move gives the defense ministry the green light to start planning the Drone Operations Command and fill it out with staff and enlisted personnel.

The military aims to utilize drone capabilities for both defensive and offensive operations, a mission that assumed new urgency in December after North Korean drones flew into Seoul and western border areas. The ROK failed to intercept any of the drones.
