US announces new sanctions targeting North Korean cyber crime, IT workers

Designations against four entities and individual come as US warns tech sector about working with remote DPRK IT workers

The U.S. has issued new sanctions designations against four North Korean entities and one individual suspected of contributing to illicit cyber activities and overseas information technology worker-related revenue generation for Pyongyang, the Treasury Department announced on Tuesday.

The new designations came as the U.S. State Department released information about a forthcoming symposium in California for tech industry leaders and experts from the U.S. and ROK governments on the risks of working with remote North Korean IT laborers.
