Future of North Korea sanctions panel in limbo amid UN Security Council dispute

China and Russia’s opposition to UK member on Panel of Experts could paralyze its work if not resolved soon, sources say

Discord among representatives of the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council (UNSC) in New York has put a question mark over the future operations of the expert group tasked with monitoring North Korea sanctions implementation, multiple informed sources have told NK News.

The U.N. Panel of Experts, which produces in-depth biannual reports on DPRK sanctions violations, consequently faces what two former panel members described as an “unprecedented” situation threatening its ability to carry out ongoing work.
