North Korea’s Madrid embassy demands extradition of 2019 raid suspects

Expert says ‘odd’ statement should be understood within the context of rising tensions between US and DPRK

The North Korean Embassy in Madrid said the U.S. must extradite the alleged perpetrators of a raid on their facilities for “severe punishment,” in its first public comments on the incident after four years.

The embassy demanded an “official apology and a compensation” from the U.S., which it says orchestrated the 2019 “assault” on its Spanish compound, and singles out ex-U.S. Marine Christopher Ahn in its statement published by the Korean Central News Agency on Tuesday.
