North Korea fired two ballistic missiles Tuesday morning, according to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).

The launch comes a day after the start of large-scale Freedom Shield U.S.-ROK joint military drills, and two days after North Korea appeared to test long-range cruise missiles from a submarine for the first time. 

JCS said it detected the launch of two short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs) from the southwest Jangyon area at around 7:41 and 7:51 a.m. KST and that they each flew around 385 miles (620 km) before splashing down in the East Sea (Sea of Japan).
