New US cyber strategy warns North Korea hackers are becoming more aggressive

Expert says report forthright about DPRK cryptocurrency theft but vague about countermeasures

North Korean hackers are more sophisticated and aggressive than ever before and pose significant threats to critical services and businesses worldwide, according to a new U.S. cyber strategy released Thursday that calls for the “use all tools of national power” and multilateral cooperation to defend against cyber threats.

The 2023 National Cyber Strategy (NCS) states that the DPRK and other autocracies like China and Russia “are aggressively using advanced cyber capabilities” to threaten U.S. national security and economic prosperity, harnessing “offensive hacking tools and services, including foreign commercial spyware.”
