The U.S., South Korea and Japan conducted a trilateral missile defense exercise near the Korean Peninsula on Wednesday, according to the ROK military, days after North Korea fired a long-range missile toward Japan.

According to the South Korean and U.S. military, Aegis-equipped destroyers ROKS Sejong the Great, USS Barry and JS Atago participated in the drill off the Korean east coast.

“This trilateral cooperation is reflective of our shared values and resolve against those who challenge regional stability” and “demonstrates the strength” of ties between the three countries, U.S. Indo-Pacific Command said in a press release.
