US pins $100M crypto heist on North Korea, backing private sector attributions

FBI says DPRK hackers orchestrated June 2022 theft from Horizon Bridge and recent transactions to launder funds

The U.S. says North Korea was behind the June 2022 theft of $100 million from a major blockchain, confirming earlier attributions by private-sector security researchers.

“Through our investigation, we are able to confirm that the Lazarus Group cyber actors associated with the DPRK are responsible for the theft of $100 million of virtual currency from Harmony’s Horizon bridge,” the FBI said in a press release earlier this week.
